Trudeaus Liberals Gain Support At Expense Of Poilievres Conservatives

Trudeau's Liberals Gain Support at Expense of Poilievre's Conservatives

Polls Suggest a Shift in Voter Intentions

Women and Young Voters Turn to the Conservatives

A recent poll conducted by Abacus Data and exclusively provided to the Star has revealed a significant shift in voter intentions. According to the survey, the Liberals have gained five percentage points at the expense of the Conservatives, who have been trailing behind them since September. Since Pierre Poilievre became leader of the Conservatives, his party has consistently maintained a lead over the Liberals, reaching a peak of nearly 20 percentage points just a month ago. However, the latest poll, conducted between January 31 and February 6, shows that the Conservatives' support has dropped to 34%, while the Liberals have climbed to 39%. The poll also indicates that women and young voters are abandoning the Liberals in favor of the Conservatives. Among women, the Conservative Party now enjoys a 10-point lead over the Liberals, a significant increase from the previous poll. Similarly, among voters aged 18-34, the Conservatives hold a 12-point advantage. "These results suggest that Trudeau's Liberals are facing an increasingly difficult challenge in the upcoming election," said David Coletto, CEO of Abacus Data. "With women and young voters turning to the Conservatives, the Liberals will need to find a way to appeal to these key demographics if they want to have a chance of winning." The Liberals had hoped that a recent spending blitz targeting voters under 40 would boost their support, but the poll suggests that this strategy has not yet materialized. Instead, the Conservatives' aggressive messaging and Poilievre's personal popularity appear to be resonating with a growing number of voters.
